TCIFA’s most recently appointed FIFA referee was given his first assignment. Gianni Ascani will be flying the Turks and Caicos Islands’ Flag in the prestigious Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup tournament in Dallas, Texas, USA. The annual tournament has been scheduled to occur from March 29 to April 5, 2015; and attracts club teams from all over the United States, South America, Central America, Africa and Europe. The Dr. Pepper Dallas Cup is the oldest international youth football tournament in the United States, and one of the largest and most highly competitive youth football tournaments in the world. This tournament will compromise of seven age groups ranging from under-13 to under-19.
“I am honored to represent the TCI and TCIFA at the Dallas Cup. I am currently investing as much extra time as possible to prepare myself and get fitter. This includes extra running, and strength exercises, analysis of game situations, polishing my knowledge on the laws of the games, etc,” says Gianni. “It will be exciting to meet all these referees from North America, Japan, Australia, Europe, and to exchange experiences. There will also be top youth teams from all over the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Spain and England.” Gianni went on to express that international exposure from the Dallas Cup would, indefinitely, play an important part in his personal and professional development.
Sonia Bien-Aime, President of the TCIFA noted that “this is, no doubt, a great opportunity for Gianni and the TCIFA, as it gives our youth and senior officials something to aspire to. As Gianni enters an arena with other professional referees from around the world, we have every confidence in him that he will represent the Turks& Caicos Islands and the TCIFA very well.”
