TCI’S MEN’S NATIONAL FOOTBALL TEAM BEATS BVI IN FINAL MATCHUP!

ORANJESTAD, Aruba; Wednesday, June 4th 2014 – The Turks & Caicos Islands (TCI) Men’s National Football Team came out on top at last night’s final match up at the Guillermo Prospero Trinidad Stadium in Oranjestad, Aruba.

The game, a fast paced and hard hitting one against fellow British Overseas Territory – the British Virgin Islands (BVI) – saw team TCI control the ball from the outset and remaining consistent to the end. Marc Fenelus (number 10) scored the first goal in the 31st minute of the game, with teammate Stevens Derilien (number 7) landing the second goal in the 51st minute. This game saw a serious level of play with both teams. Nevertheless it with the Turks & Caicos Islands the won with two (2) goals and nil for the British Virgin Islands.

Of the game, Craig Harrington, TCIFA’s Technical Director said: “The whole trip has been has been a tremendous learning experience towards qualification for The Caribbean Cup qualifiers. We ended this group on a high note. It’s been about a learning to compete and learning to win; and we did that!

Tuesday, June 3rd was the last day for Group Two of the Preliminary Qualification Rounds for The 2014 Caribbean Cup. This group consisted of three game days that saw team TCI go head-to-head in matches against Aruba (Friday, May 30th), French Guiana (Sunday, June 1st) and the British Virgin Islands (Tuesday, June 3rd).  In the end it was French Guiana that won this group and advances to the next stage, Group Four, where matches will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1st to 8th September 2014.

Chris Bryan, President of the TCIFA said: “It was important for the team to finish the tournament with a good result and they did just that. This series of matches was an important learning experience for a very young TCI team and they come back stronger and better prepared for future competitions”

The Turks & Caicos Islands Men’s National Football returns home today via InterCaribbean Airlines.
