GROUP 3 OF THE PRELIMINARY QUALIFICATION ROUND FOR THE CFU WOMEN’ CARIBBEAN CUP KICKS OFF THIS WEEKEND

PROVIDENCIALES, Turks & Caicos Islands; Thursday, May 22nd 2014 – Group Three of the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Caribbean Cup takes place on the home pitch this weekend. The Turks & Caicos Islands Women’s National Soccer team will square up against Bermuda, St. Kitts & Nevis and the Cayman Islands for the preliminary qualification round. All matches will take place at the Turks & Caicos Islands Football Association’s (TCIFA) National Academy, Venetian Road, Providenciales.

The 2014 CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup will be the inaugural edition to the Caribbean Cup franchise, an international football competition for national teams of member nations affiliated with the Caribbean Football Union (CFU) of the CONCACAF region. Winners of the inaugural CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup will qualify for both the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup and the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Of the CFU Women’s Caribbean Cup, Candace Hanchell, President of the Women’s Football League said: “We have a dynamic and diverse group of players who will perform to the best if their abilities and will make Turks and Caicos proud.”

The tournament is a milestone for the Caribbean region, which recently hosted a successful women’s U20 tournament and boasts one of just three female FIFA executive committee members in Sonia Bien-Aime, who is also the TCIFA’s Secretary General.

20 national associations will be grouped into four groups of four nations and one group of three. The Final Round will be hosted by Trinidad & Tobago in August 2014. The eight team final round will feature the First Round Group Winners, the two Best Overall Second Place Teams from the four team groups and host country Trinidad & Tobago.

The 20-women squad for Team TCI consists of Jacinda Alfrena, Barbara Anderson, Gerlie Azemard, Bertha Belle, Britteny Bien-Aime, Briandie Brooks, Chanile Butterfield, Sarah Cenary, Jancilia Cox, Willandra Elliott, Olivia Gravely, Akia Guerrier, Tamara Hall, Melissa Jean Guy, Christma Jean-Louis, Josul Jeune, Vanessa Joseph, Emmanuela Meneide, Gaya Smith and Natalie Zaidan.
