FOOTBALL FEVER TAKES OVER THE BIG SOUTH

South Caicos, commonly referred to as “the Big South,” has been infected with football fever. The young footballers of the Big South were overwhelmed with excitement as they received their first set of goals from the Turks and Caicos Islands Football Association (“TCIFA”) on Saturday, November 7, 2015. TCIFA in its efforts to expand throughout the entire country has recently revitalized its grassroots programme in Grand Turk and has extended the programme into the islands of North and Middle Caicos and also South Caicos.

It is no wonder that TCIFA continues to make tremendous strides in the world of football as it is evident that tunnel vision does not exist, instead, TCIFA’s vision includes the development of football both nationally and internationally. Candia Ewing, General Secretary states that “in order to achieve our realistic goals we rely on our volunteers who are an integral part of the association. In this regard, we are truly grateful to have Mr. Damian Grant heading our grassroots programme in the island of South Caicos.”

Grant is currently employed by the Turks & Caicos Islands Government as the Physical Education and Health Science Teacher of the Iris Stubbs Primary School. Grant has a vast amount of experience in the football arena, played as a striker and has earned a FIFA Advance Level II Coaching License. Grant’s coaching experience has extended into Harbour View Football Club and the University of Technology in Kingston, Jamaica.

The elated Grant could not contain his excitement as he stated that “team work will always make the dream work! Thanks to TCIFA for supplying the South Caicos football program with well needed goals. This is the next step in developing football in the Big South at all levels and gender.”
